The need for a full length critical work on the Yoruba novel has been long felt amongst student and teacher of Yoruba literature. This is because despite the fact that the study of the Yoruba novel has attained a significant status in Yoruba studies no detailed or com­prehensive work on the Yoruba novels has been published. The publication of this book has removed this lapse.

The Development of the Yoruba novel is a work of many years of thorough search and painstaking analytical study of all the Yoruba novels from 1930 to 1975. It is the first of its kind in the history of Yoruba literary studies in the sense that it is the first book on the literary history of the Yoruba novel.

The author Dr. Bisi Ogunsina is a Senior Lecturer in Yoruba literature in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages at the University of Ilorin in Nigeria.
